Stakeholders Agree on National Strategy for Environmental Education and Communication

Stakeholders have agreed on the National Strategy on Environmetal Education and Communication (EECS) developed for PAs in Mongolia.

On August 22 of this year, more than 50 stakeholders working in the field of EEC  gathered to discuss and agree on the EECS. The strategy was developed by the GIZ SPACES project in 2020 and updated in 2022. The meeting of stakeholders was opened by D. Batmunkh, the head of DPAM. Representatives of government and NGOs, research and project programs discussed the main issues and target groups included in the strategy. The main issues and target groups were identified in the 2020-2022 KAP survey and capacity need assessment initiated by the GIZ SPACES project. Also, the participants expressed their willingness to contribute to My Green Mongolia a national campaign, which is part of the strategic 2022-2024 action plan of the MET.

The campaign aims to contribute to solving 4 main problems related to PA:

1. Weak political will, lack of finance and human resources 2. Lack of public knowledge and information 3. Overgrazing and overexploitation of natural resources 4. Excessive tourism. Therefore, the main target groups of the campaign are 1- decision-makers, 2- youth, 3- local people, especially herders, and 4- domestic travelers.

More than 30 stakeholders who joined the campaign created and cooperated under Facebook group My Green Mongolia.  GIZ SPACES project has been developing manuals, videos and comics related to EEC. Also, the website and radio drama are being prepared and will be ready by the end of this year. Previously developed media and promotional products will be posted on this website and made available to the public.
