ZSL Wild Camel Campaign
The training on “Methods
and Tools of interactive EEC for Eco-Clubs in Gobi” under component 4 of the GIZ
SPACES project has been conducted on 7-18 Oct, 2023. The training took place in six different soums
in the buffer zone area of Protected Area Gobi A, namely, Shinejinst and
Bayan-Undur soums of Bayankhongor aimag, Erdene, Bayan-Tooroi (village), Altai
and Tsogt soums of Gobi-Altai aimag.
MGM
partners Zoological Society London (ZSL), Ecological Education Center of the Mongolian
National University (EEC-NUM), and People Centered Conservation (PCC) conducted
the training as part of the My Green Mongolia campaign. It was part of the Wild
Camel gene pool protection campaign initiated during the 10-step Campaign Training
in August 2023. The camel campaign was initiated by ZSL and EEC, assisted by
PCC and financed by the GIZ SPACES project. The skillful coordination of Ms
Bolor, the manager of ZSL, played a crucial role in making it happen.
The training reached to more than 700 local
people including eco-club kids and adults from the mentioned soums. The
training was facilitated by Dr. Sunjidmaa from EEC-NUM and Ms Narangerel of
PCC, a national NGO. The event in each soum comprised three sessions:
A. Meeting event with soum residents including
leaders, teachers, PA staff and school kids. Around 200 locals in each soum attended
this session and had chance to get
informed about the MGM campaign through an interactive presentation on
environmental topics by Ms Sunjidma of EEC-NUM.
B. The EEC training for eco-club kids and
teachers covered around 30 participants in each soum.
C. Courtesy meeting with local officials.
